Does your dog run from you when you call him? Does he wait by the door getting ready to make his escape the minute you open the door? If so, you are in luck because there is a system that can help you get your dog under control and keep him under control. And it works for solving a LOT more of your dog behavior problems as well.

An Effective Dog Training Tool

A pet safe yard and park trainer, the Petsafe PDT00-10603, is system that will allow training of your pet with a minimum of problems. Does your dog chase cars or bark frantically all the time? If so, a dog training remote collar may give you the peace of mind that your pooch is not going to get run over or cause an all-out war in your neighborhood.

This is a system that is designed for use with dogs that weigh more than 8 pounds and they should be at the least six months of age. This dog training electric collar will work within a 400 yard radius, which allows for plenty of running room. If your dog is a high energy dog this is important. He needs to be able to get enough exercise to allow him to calm down and listen.

Dog collars control the behavior that is undesirable and this pet safe yard and park trainer has eight levels of stimulation to help you do just that. In addition, this dog training system has a transmitter that will control three dogs by purchasing additional dog obedience training collars. Buttons that will be used to transmit both negative and positive tones are one of the best features for obedience training.

Features

The Petsafe Yard and Park Trainer is a good system with features that are desirable for training your pet.

The transmitter and the collar are waterproof and will stand up to the elements.

Both the collar and the transmitter use rechargeable batteries and they come with the system as does the charger.

These electronic collars for dogs are adjustable (from 6 inches to 28 inches) and should fit just about any size dog.

8 levels of electric stimulation with tones for negative as well as positive training

400 yard range

Expandable for use with three dogs.

If you are having problems with your dog and it has become a war of wills, exerting yours just became easier. There is nothing more irritating than chasing your dog down the street. He stops and watches you long enough for you to just about catch up to him and zoom, off he goes again. With the use of the yard and park remote trainer, he will learn to come when you call him. The only time he will run is when both of you are playing. Remember, this is a training device and you will have to take the time to do the training. But you will save literally hours.

Look at what these users had to say on Amazon.com:

My dog is a sweetheart with just a couple of minor issues. Primarily, she wants to do what she wants to do and is quite certain she should be the boss. Using the collar on setting two she quickly (three training sessions) just needed to hear the beeps to behave.

Wonderful Tool
I first tried it myself (on my hand) before putting it on her…and found I would do whatever someone told me to at level 3…I’m just hoping my wife doesn’t find out
As she had run into the road a few times on walks previous to buying this collar it is possibly, quite literally, a life saver.

AMAZING! A whole new dog!
This is so not a creul way to train your dog! Our dog has never been happier now that she finally GETS the rules.

One Potential Problem
We have an “invisible fence”, which works on a very similar principle. The issue is that when I “beep” her or “zap” her at home, she becomes very confused.

She got it all. It’s AWESOME.
I’ve trained numerous dogs before and she wasn’t getting it. Buying this collar was a last resort and the BEST THING I DID. She had the collar on 2 days and she got it.

Unbelievable!
We debated about this item due to the idea of shocking our dog. Within 15 minutes (with only 1 time actually having to use “shock” correction) he was listening when doing the training techniques outlined in the instructions.
As other reviewers have said, the tone seems to now be enough to “correct” him.. I also agree that the positive tone seems to not make sense and we have not used it.

Although there has been much controversy over the use of electronic collars for dogs, when used as instructed they can be quite an effective training tool. The device has eight settings which give a momentary stimulation and eight setting for extended stimulation. However, the proper use of the dog obedience training collar should be followed. The settings can be tested by trying it on yourself to see what it feels like at each level. Most people find that 4 is the typical level for providing the best training.

Included is the training manual that will allow you to train your dog in the proper way. The limited lifetime warranty information is also provided.
This product gets an “A” rating. Compare Prices

The Petsafe Wireless Instant Fence Is Fantastic!
(Except For One Small Problem)

The Petsafe Instant Fence (as it is sometimes called) is the perfect solution for our yard because a regular invisible fence requires a buried wire. The door and driveway placement just made it impossible without a lot of extra expense. Those systems (in addition to their other drawbacks) are pretty expensive anyway. The Petsafe wireless containment system saved the day for us! And we saved a bundle by purchasing the PetSafe PIF-300-11 Wireless Pet Containment System from Amazon.

So how does this thing work, anyway?

.

Place the broadcast unit in the house (or anyplace you have power) and it creates an electronic circle around it – up to 90′ (180′ diameter) for a total area of about half an acre. And you never have to bury a wire!

Place the electronic collar on your pet and with proper training your dog (or dogs) has an invisible wireless containment boundary that really works. And training is easy. One really neat feature is the adjustable radius. While you can’t change the shape, you can change the size of the circle.

Setup is easy; plug the unit in, turn it on and select hi or low. (There are complete instructions and training tips with the unit.) Then set the boundary flags so your dog will have a visual reference. Simply carry the collar toward the “invisible fence” and when it beeps, plant a flag. Place the flags a few feet apart until you have the complete circle. Now, while wearing the collar, as your dog approaches the limit he/she will initially hear the tone. Wander a little further, and the harmless static correction gives your pet a shock. The collar is adjustable so you can give a tone only or varying degrees of static correction. Believe me, this is a LOT more humane than taking a chance on having your pet wander into traffic or run off and get lost.

Here’s a feature that is way better than regular invisible fences. If your dog goes outside the boundary, the correction continues until he returns. There is a failsafe that shuts it off after 20 seconds so he won’t continue to receive the shock should training be incomplete and he doesn’t come back into the safe area. So, if your dog is in the allowed area – no shock. If he is outside the area and gets the correction (read, incentive to return) he will get relief by getting back where he belongs. Compare this to buried wire fences that will zap your dog when he tries to return to where he belongs!

Yes, we use this system. And we live on a VERY busy street. And yes, we let Cooper and Stella outside with their collars on while we are in the house. (Note: never leave your dog unattended. We watch them out the window)

PETSAFE WIRELESS FENCE

POSITIVES

Tone then static correction

No need to bury wire like invisible fence type systems

Easy setup – a few simple steps and you’re ready to train

Covers up to 1/2 acre with adjustable circle (180 foot diameter)

Five adjustable levels of correction plus tone-only mode

These Amazon users had these comments:

As close to perfect as a wireless system can be!

Although I wouldn’t consider our adopted 90 lb. male Weimaraner a wus, he isn’t the Alpha dog either. The training aids were good and he quickly learned how far he could go on static shock level 4. He has since become so accustomed to our established boundaries that we have lowered it to level 2…

The only disadvantage we found – and it is minor – is that if your home sits higher (or lower??) than part of your yard it will add few extra feet to your radius until the collar picks up the signal. This can be overcome if you build this allowance into your transmitters placement. Overall, we are thrilled

Fantastic, especially for determined dogs (4 years now!)
We had Houdini-dog. We tried everything: tie-outs, runs, kennels, garage lock-down.
…no matter what we tried, it was just a matter if time before Max was on the loose again.
Then we got this little beauty. In 4 years we have had a problem twice – once when the battery went dead (I now put it on my calendar to change every 6 weeks) and once when his old collar started to come apart and just needed replacing from plain old hard use.

Works great, but does have flaws
Now for a few cons. The batteries are pretty expensive. I think they go for around 8 bucks for two here on Amazon. I found I have to change the battery on each collar every 2-3 months on average.
The boundary also seems to fluctuate quite a bit. When I set the flags up to coincide with when the collar would beep, I found it changed … After your dog understands that when the collar beeps to turn around it isn’t a huge deal but I still prefer consistency.

NEGATIVES

If yard is not level may not have perfect circle

Uses special battery (available on Amazon – pretty reasonable)

Other electrical signals or metal may interfere

Petsafe Wireless Fence Review – Personal Experience

The Petsafe Wireless Fencing System is the perfect containment system for us. We trust it to keep our pets inside their “safe zone” and keep in mind, we live on a very busy road. As much as I hate to admit it, we got a bit lax because the system works so good. Cooper wouldn’t go outside his area, even with no flags. So we let him out without his collar. That’s when he was seen across the street smelling the flowers. He had obviously chased a rabbit or squirrel over there.

Moral of the story:
Pets always need to wear their collars.
Training is as important as the technology. (But the technology is SUPER!)

The Petsafe Wireless Pet Fence comes complete with transmitter, collar receiver, flags, and training instructions.
152 of 198 Amazon ratings are 4 or 5 star
Ranked #2 in category (batteries for this unit are #1)

Another behavioral problem that dogs have starting from their puppy days is pulling and tugging on a leash. This is another one that can be started and encouraged by dog owners. When you play games with the dog, such as tug of war, it makes the dog feel like they can continue to do the pull and tugging bit. This can start a bad habit that can be difficult to break.

If you have a body harness, it can be used when you are training your dog not to pull and tug. It can also be used when you have to retrain your dog to stop pulling and tugging. Work with the dog so that they can accept and use the harness the same way it would use a collar on their neck.

If you are walking the dog, get a toy for them so that you can make them stay at your side. Treats can be used also but you have to make sure they only get a treat if they walk beside you. Continue to use the command heel and praise your dog when he gets it right. You can also use a training collar. This collar can be used if you are having problems training them not to pull and tug. Prong collars work well to keep the dog from pulling hard. And if the dog slowly gets ahead of you a quick gentle pop, accompanied by the command can get your dog back in proper position. Head collars, or “Halti” type collars work well too but you must be very careful not to hurt your dog’s neck when using this type of collar. Learn About Different Types of Dog Training Collars.

Regardless of which one you use, make sure that it fits correctly. It’s important that it’s not too big or too tight for them. A training collar should never, ever, injure a dog.

As you are walking with your dog, the leash should remain loose. If they pull ahead of you, change directions so that they will end up behind you. This should be done before it gets to the end of the leash. Do not allow the puppy or dog to pull you. While they are still young, they need to learn how to walk the right way.

As they get older and larger, it’s crucial that they are walking correctly. As you are correct him, do not yank or pull on their neck. Just make a gentle movement and they will respond. Using too much force can cause the dog to become agitated.

He also had a dog that he had regularly had problems with when it came to obeying. Our Sam was so out of control, it was virtually impossible to walk him. He would go full-tilt pulling whoever was at the other end of his leash mercilessly.

Training Made Easy

The advice to use a humane training collar was the turning point in Sam’s behavior. The dog training remote collar worked wonders. With the use of this collar, Sam began to pay attention to commands and walking him became a fun experience. No longer was it the workout he had made it previously. The small dog training collar was the perfect size for him and with the range of up to 100 yards; it was easy to train him at home or in the park across the street.

This pet safe little dog trainer has ten stimulation levels and can be changed very easily. The use of just enough to make him pay attention is all that is needed. The manual that came with the collar was so helpful. It was actually written by professionals. Training dogs at the Triple Crown Dog Academy, they are dedicated to making sure dog owners understand the proper way of training. The collar is a beneficial method – not a cruel one.

When reading training collar reviews you may see many that are not in favor of using these collars. The truth is they can be misused, but that is entirely up to the person using the collar. The dog electric shock collar is not intended to be cruel. It is merely an aid that if used properly can be quite beneficial. The stimulation needs only be enough to get his attention and the results are so amazing that Sam turned into a joy to train.

The transmitter has negative tone with correction and positive tone without correction that can be used to teach the dog what is accepted behavior. Weighing only 3 ½ ounces, it is water resistant and uses a 9 volt battery. The receiver is a mere 2 ounces and uses 3 volt batteries that are included. It is waterproof so there is no problem if your dog likes to take a dip now and then.

The pet safe little dog trainer has even been used by professionals as a training aid. It is so effective that no matter what type of problem you are having with your dog; it can be corrected using this collar.

Amazing!

As a animal lover I was really torn about the idea of a “shock” collar. What sold me was that this one could be set low and could also be used with a “beep”. It only took him three times before he got it. The first time he left the yard I called him, he did the typical “Ha-yeah right”, and took off! I gave him the command “Come Cosmo!” and then zapped him. He did yelp, I won’t lie:-( He stopped and started to take off again, I repeated. He came running to me. I praised him and gave him treats. Next time I “beeped” him first with the command, followed by a second beep (still didn’t come) then a zap, then he came…more praise. Last time I just “beeped” him and he came instantly!!. Now he wears it and we don’t even have it turned on!

Worked Well But Broke

This collar worked well for our dog for several months, but then the wire antenna inside the collar broke off where it attaches to the receiver. We tried soldering it back on, but it broke again. It is just a bad design, not meant to last. it only works within about 10 feet without the antenna, and our dog figured this out.

A high tech device, the Innotek Ultrasmart Remote Trainer will allow you the same benefits found in trainers that are much larger. This is a small unit but that means nothing when it comes to the training it provides for your dog.

The Innotek dog collar is just as effective as larger collars even though it is incredibly thin. The Innotek ultra smart remote trainer, 300 yard range is the right tool for training your pet. Even if your dog is incredibly stubborn and runs off every time you take him to the park for exercise, all you have to do is get him within sight and within about 300 yards and he will learn to mind.

Our dog, Jack, was the terror of the neighborhood. If he was not barking or whining, he was getting out and chasing the mailman, jumping on everyone who came into the yard and generally being a nuisance. Now he is the best-behaved dog on the block. All it took was a little training using the Innotek remote trainer and he has turned into the obedient dog we knew he could be in a short period of time.

What are the Features of the Innotek Dog Training Collar?

The remote for the trainer is so small that it can be held in your hand. The receiver is only 2 ¾ inches x ¾ inches x 1 ¼ inches. The transmitter is 1 ¾ inches x ¾ inches x 4 1/8 inches. There is in addition a backlit LCD display and the collar will fit necks from 8 inches to 24 inches. The Ready Test feature is available to make sure the collar is the correct fit. Included with the system is a limited lifetime warranty. Nine levels of stimulation are possible using this Innotek ultrasmart collar.

What are Others Saying About the Innotek Training Collar?

Those who have purchased the Innotek dog collar have given reviews that are quite positive in response to their use of the collar. One purchaser said:

“We have been very happy with our purchase. Our dog has responded quickly and loves the freedom she has when we are out in the yard. The battery life is great and has made it so easy to train our 9 month old puppy.”

Another said:

“This is a very useful product that I would recommend to anyone. Our dog ACTUALLY listens now because of this trainer.”

Ratings

The average rating for this product by users was 4 ½ stars out of 5 possible. As a tool for teaching your dog how to obey commands, the Innotek training collar is all one piece. Unlike other collars there is not a box that dangles from the collar. This waterproof collar even allows your dog to swim.

The collar works with a remote. You do not have to turn it off or on manually. The manual that comes with the Innotek remote trainer should be read carefully. This will allow you to use the collar and remote the way they were intended. If used properly this is a very beneficial training aid for your dog.

Reviewer Has Complaint

I have been happy with the Innotech remote training collar. My 9 mo old golden retrieve seems to be responding to it well. My primarily complaint is that the remote isn’t rechargable like the collar is. The battery door on the remote isn’t the friendliest design. I have already managed to break the tabs on it while changing the battery. The screw still holds the cover on; however, the remote can now no longer be considered very “waterproof”.

Effective for Husky Chow Mix

My other dog, a large Huskey-Chow mix, respects his trainer in every way, but not me (I’m a small woman). One jerk or pull & I can be down. Generally, he obeys sit, down, stay, etc. But, being part Husky, he wants to run. He is all about hunting & moving forward. It is the nature of the breed.

I had expected the collar to be very effective on the small dog & not so effective on this dog because of his thick fur & his size. Instead, the collar has been very effective with this dog.

Best Training Collar By Far

The Innotek ULTRASMART training collar works like a charm.

If you are experiencing what I went through with my dogs, you definitely need to listen to what I am about to tell you. My two golden retrievers were constantly misbehaving and would not listen to any of the commands I had tried hopelessly to teach them. They were totally in control – of me. What changed them to the well behaved dogs they are today?

The Innotek Ultrasmart Remote Trainer, 300 Yards, 2 Dogs system.

This 2 dog training collar was responsible for saving my sanity and that of the rest of the family as well. This system allows the dogs to be corrected up to 300 yards away with either an electronic stimulus or a warning tone. The Ready Test feature allows you to know the collar is on correctly and fits dogs with a neck measuring from 8 inches to 24 inches.

The system is recommended for dogs 6 months old and older. The use of a longer leash is the best idea when beginning training with the Innotek 2 dog system. This will allow you to ensure your dogs are safe while learning the commands.

What are the Features of the Innotek Remote Trainer?

The Innotek ultrasmart 2 dog system has a transmitter that will fit easily in your pocket. Although it may seem small, it is quite effective. The receiver is 2 ¾ inches x ¾ inches x 1 ¼ inches. The transmitter is 1 ¾ inches x ¾ inches x 4 1/8 inches. The Innotek 2 dog has a limited lifetime warranty. The range is a generous 300 yards and the training system has nine levels of stimulation as well as the option of using only the tone for training.

An instruction manual is included to allow you to use the 2 dog training collar correctly. Included are rechargeable lithium ion batteries which recover quickly charging in approximately 2 hours. This system has the features of the IUT-300; however this system works with 2 dogs. It’s convenient to have a single remote that controls both collars.

What are Customers Who Bought this System Saying?

“This works as advertised. We were hesitant to use this but while researching and talking to others we realized it was the right solution. After 2 days of only using the number 1 setting and the number 2 setting once or twice it now works with only the tone. The dogs no longer bark at the fence, dig, or stray. We did remove the smaller contacts and replace it with the larger after the first day. We also tried them on our arms and it wasn’t painful.”

Another consumer who purchased the Innotek Ultrasmart 2 dog training system said:

“This product has literally changed my perception of our dogs. I’ll admit – I wasn’t a great dog trainer, and I wasn’t comfortable taking them outside, because they would run. Now we have lots of fun outside – they like me more, I like them more, and they get lots more exercise.”

The Ratings

The Innotek Ultrasmart Remote Trainer, 300 Yards, 2 Dogs received 4 stars out of a possible 5 stars. If you are looking for a humane way of teaching your dogs the basic commands and putting a stop to their uncontrollable behavior, you should try the Innotek remote trainer.

The collar provides a comfortable fit for your dogs. In addition, the dog quickly learns that the stimulation can be stopped by simply minding. This teaches them to respond when you call or issue a command. Used properly this is a perfectly safe method of getting your dogs to respond.

I searched for the best electronic dog training collar and came up with a winner – even though I was a little bit unsure if I should even use it. Ultimately, the results made me realize we picked the best of the best dog training collars. The Petsafe PDBDT-305 Deluxe Big-Dog Trainer is a big winner in my book.

See, Cooper is just a high-spirited, fun loving kind of guy. The first time we took him for a walk I thought he would choke himself he was so excited to get going 9using a choke collar – aptly named). Next, we tried a Halti type collar (head collar) and it worked pretty well. But when we started going to a professional dog trainer he discouraged it due to the possibility of neck injury. We then used a pinch collar (or sometimes called a prong collar) and it was like something magical happened.

So, what does this have to do with a shock collar? We learned that quick, firm corrections are very effective. And this is a lot more humane to the dog than repeated ineffective punishment. The Petsafe correction collar was the perfect solution to bad behavior when not leashed.

Note: We believe that positive reinforcement is the best way to train. Unfortunately, much to my dismay, dogs naturally develop undesirable behaviors. They must be corrected not just for my convenience but for the dog’s safety. That is why, when positive methods don’t work, I am more than willing to use a prong collar or shock collar to get quick effective dog training results.

Also, I think it is a good idea to get professional dog training help to make sure your training methods are right for your particular dog and that the proper dog/master relationship is established.

OK, now that I’m off my soapbox, let’s look at the petsafe electronic training collar. This thing is great. Here are the features:

Over 125 customer reviews confirm this is a great product. Yes there are some cons as well as pros but the overall opinion is positive for the Petsafe training collars. One complaint is the waterproof claim – some people had problems when the collar was exposed to lots of the wet stuff.

Sadly, I have a dog that enjoys the sprinkler system….and I found out that the collar was not waterproof…
I contacted PetSafe and braced myself for a fight… but was pleasantly surprised that they were both responsive and courteous…
The support employee on the phone immediately stated that he was not comfortable with trying to repair a unit that had been wet on the interior, and he immediately shipped a new unit with a return postage label for the broken unit.

You will find numerous stories of great customer service from PetSafe. They are a great example of a company that cares about people – and pets!

I was very hesitant to use a shock collar on my dog so I tried everything else I could think of to control his jumping, barking and general disobedience. I worked with him myself, hired a trainer, and purchased an audio and spray correction device but nothing worked.
After trying each stimulation setting on myself (even at level 10 it is not painful but it does command your attention), I adjusted the collar and placed it on my puppy. Saying that there was an almost instant change in his demeanor would be an understatement.
Within 2 days I only had to use the sound to correct him. And now, only a few weeks later, I don’t even need to turn the collar on. He is a pleasure and I know that this product is the reason for his change. Thank you Petsafe for this wonderful product.

My Overall Rating of the PetSafe PDBDT-305 Deluxe Big-Dog Trainer

I give this collar a solid A Grade of 97. This review is based on personal experience and I can vouch for the quality and workability of the product. While I don’t have personal experience with the product division of PetSafe (every Petsafe dog training product I have works great!) I do have experience with their company. See, we live in the city where Petsafe is headquartered. We take Cooper to PetSafe Village for grooming and daycamp. The people there are absolutely great. I can’t say enough for the great service and integrity of this company.

Bottom Line Opinion On The Petsafe Training Collar

You can’t lose. Period. The product works great and if for some reason it doesn’t work properly you have terrific customer service to back it up. Plus, if you just don’t like it, you can return it (when purchased from a dealer or Amazon).

You don’t want your dog to chew on things he isn’t supposed to. To keep your dog from chewing, learn these basic steps and utilize the “secret” method that works almost every time.

Chewing is natural, for puppies and grown dogs alike. Dogs think that chewing is normal (and for them it is!). However, it is not necessarily the right thing to do. If your dog has problems with chewing on things he shouldn’t, you will need to correct the problem as soon as you notice it.

There are some dogs that will chew anything that they can get their teeth on. That includes shoes, clothes and furniture. Some will even chew rocks! Of course, these are things that you would rather them keep away from. It’s not a good feeling to have to keep buying replacements. (Although you probably don’t buy replacement rocks.)

One of the easiest solutions to this problem is to get your dog a variety of dog toys that they can chew on. Using these toys can teach them what they can chew on and what they cannot. Plus, having a variety of dog toys for them to chew on will keep them occupied. It’s a good idea to have a variety of textures for them to choose from as well.

Chewing on the toys will also keep their teeth and gums healthy. Some of the better choices for dog toys to chew on are ones that are scented or flavored. Consistently encourage your dog to play with the toys.

Another thing you can do is teach them to get a toy every time they come in your presence. Even if they greet someone else, still teach them to get one of their toys.

While you are training them, also teach them not to chew on items they are not supposed to be chewing on. It is also important that the area where the dog plays is kept free of clutter. For your part, make sure that there are no shoes or other items that can provoke them to start chewing on them.

If the dog should happen to get something that they’re not suppose to have, get their attention and remove it. Then replace it with a dog toy. Each time they do that, applaud them for doing the right thing. If they take the allowable replacement, you can even give them a treat as a reward. You can also prevent them from not chewing your items by applying something that will make them step away from it, like bitter apple, cayenne pepper or tabasco sauce. I prefer the bitter apple because it works well and doesn’t burn the dog’s mouth like pepper or tabasco.

Keep an eye on your dog all the time (especially puppies)

Give your dog an alternate “OK thing” to chew on

Praise your dog when he chews on the right thing

Treat your dog when she chews on the right thing

Use bitter apple on forbidden items

Even though biting is considered as a normal behavior, you should also keep in mind that when dogs get older, it could pose a serious risk to others including yourself.

It may be cute in the puppy stage, but as they grow, it’s not cute anymore. You have to start when you still have a puppy to get them to change their behavior regarding biting.

As a puppy, biting is a learned behavior that comes from their mother and additional litter. Because they are not always with their mother, the human that takes care of them must be responsible for making the change.

While still in the puppy stage, allow the puppy to play with other puppies. They like to interact with each other and sometimes that will include biting. As they do this, they can learn to control themselves.

If there is one puppy that is overly aggressive, the others will get after the aggressive puppy for being too rough. As they continue to play with each other, the puppy will learn to subside with the biting.

You can start very early while they are still a puppy when they are at least four to six weeks old. Here are some tips that you can take to get an advantage:

Let the puppy know that you hurt when they bit you. You can be stern and say “no” or “ouch” to let the puppy know that it hurt you. The puppy will know that they have gone too far and they will think about what they’ve done.

Slowly take your hand away. Doing this too fast can cause more damage.

If they bite you again, repeat your verbal reaction. Step away from the puppy for a while. They will realize that you don’t appreciate what they did and will figure out that you don’t want to be around them.

Give them a toy to chew on.

Reward the puppy when they are good and not biting you.

Be consistent when you are training them to stop biting. Continue to let the puppy know that bites are not acceptable.

Your puppy should take an obedience class. That way he can interact with other dogs as he gets older. He will learn about limits with humans and other dogs.

As your puppy gets older and grows into a dog, he needs lots of physical activity, including regular exercise. Also, give them a chance to play outside so that he can get some fresh air. Make sure he gets to walk and play fetch. This can help them not think about biting.

Keep them on a schedule with their physical activities. They will get used to doing things and will come to enjoy doing them.

Keep young children out of harm’s way by not leaving them alone with the puppy. The puppy may still be in the learning stage and may bite the child.

Refrain from aggressive behavior with them. That can influence them to continue biting.

If they continue to bite despite your best efforts, contact your veterinarian or a dog trainer for assistance.

Your dog is your best friend. He is always there when you return home, happily wagging his tail to greet you at the door. He is the well-behaved dog you envisioned when you considered getting a pet.

However, he was not always the obedient pet he is now. When he was a newcomer to your home, there were some issues that definitely needed work. Every trip outside for exercise and fresh air became a war of wills. You have to admit, his was somewhat stronger for awhile.

What made him change? How did you turn him into the well-behaved pet he is today? The discovery of the most humane way of training your dog was the turning point. The right collar to help train him to behave and follow your commands was responsible for the almost instant improvement.

The Types of Training Collars

There are several collars employed for training dogs, but there are a few that people are more comfortable with than others. In addition, the collars are safe and do not harm your dog. Let’s look at the types and what benefit they can provide.

Choke Collar – The choke collar tightens around the dog’s neck when they pull. The consensus is that this type of collar could potentially harm a dog’s wind pipe by pressing against it. The more the dog pulls against the leash or chain that is attached to the choke collar the tighter it gets.

Halti Collar – A halti collar fits around the dog’s head and may remind you somewhat of a horse halter. When using this type of collar, if the dog goes in the direction you want, the collar is not tight. If he tries to head in the other direction, it tightens around his snout. The more he tries going in the wrong direction, the tighter the collar will get. He will quickly want to relieve the pressure.

Some dogs respond well to this type of collar, but others never seem to get used to it. They will fight with the collar and try to take it off the entire time they are wearing it. There is also a small resemblance to a muzzle, which could cause some people to think your dog bites.

These two collars seem to be effective and are preferred by many trainers when teaching dogs the basic behavior expected of them.

Pinch Collar – This type, also called a prong collar, gives the dog a pinch when they pull against the leash or chain. Rather than focusing on the wind pipe, this collar delivers even pressure around the entire neck. There is a general feeling among some that this type of collar is not a good choice for an aggressive dog. But this type collar can be ideal for dogs that want to pull against the leash when the proper training is used.

Electronic Collar – This collar has had very good results with dogs that do not come when called or are just generally not very good listeners. The collar works by delivering small static shocks to the dog using a remote control when it does not respond to your commands.

There are many people who will tell you this is inhumane and just plain mean. The truth is this can be a very effective way to train your dog. If you perform a simple test, you can rest assured this is not harming your dog. Put the collar on your arm or leg and start with the lowest setting. Shock yourself using the remote and see what the shock feels like. Go to the next setting and try it. This will allow you to feel what the dog will feel.

Always Use Training Collars Responsibly

Remember one thing. The person in control of the collar is responsible for using it properly. None of the collars are meant to harm the dog. Used responsibly, they are effective for training your pet. This is the sole purpose of using any type of collar made for training. A dog should never be harmed in an attempt to try and make it mind.

If you are interested in the success others have had with training collars, you will want to check out some of the reviews on this site. They are written by people just like you who have used different training collars. You will be amazed at how quickly some have had a positive response from dogs that were totally out of control.
